Winter interiors can feel seasonal without relying entirely on traditional Christmas decorations. Wood, wool, greenery and handmade details can create a setting that works throughout the colder months.
Natural greenery is an easy starting point. Pine branches, eucalyptus, berries and small twigs can be arranged on tables, shelves and around existing objects. Combined with candles and pine cones, they introduce winter colour without requiring a large centrepiece.
Wood can be used for simple handmade decorations. Small branches wrapped with jute or thick string can become miniature trees, while stars or other small ornaments provide a finishing detail. Because the construction is simple, several can be made in different sizes and grouped together.
Knitted pieces bring another texture into the interior. Small stockings and ornaments can be made from leftover wool, while cushions, blankets and sheepskin add the same material quality on a larger scale.
Existing winter objects can also become part of the decoration. Vintage ice skates filled with greenery and berries create an unusual seasonal display, while old baskets, wooden boxes and ceramic pots can hold branches or firewood.
The same approach can continue beyond Christmas. Removing the more festive details while keeping wool, wood, greenery and candles allows the interior to move naturally into January and February.
Winter styling does not therefore have to be limited to a few weeks in December. Choosing materials associated with warmth and the outdoors creates a seasonal interior that can remain in place throughout winter.
