An outdoor bath brings bathing into the landscape without requiring the space or construction of a swimming pool. They are increasingly found at cabins, glamping sites, countryside stays and small hotels where the surroundings are an important part of the experience.

There are several ways to create one. Traditional bathtubs can be installed on a terrace or in a sheltered part of the garden, while larger metal stock tanks provide enough space to sit comfortably outdoors. Some are filled only when needed, while others remain connected to a permanent water supply.

Heating makes a significant difference to how and when an outdoor bath can be used. Some installations are connected to the property's hot water system. Others use electric or wood-fired heaters, particularly in more remote locations where the bath is designed to be used throughout the year.

The location is just as important as the bath itself. A view over mountains, fields, woodland or open countryside can become part of the experience, but privacy still needs to be considered. Planting, stone walls, timber screens or simply enough distance from neighbouring properties can provide shelter without completely enclosing the space.

Outdoor baths also work in places where a swimming pool would be impractical. They require much less space and can be incorporated beside a cabin, on a terrace or within a small garden. This makes them particularly suitable for individual guest rooms and smaller holiday properties.

They are different from hot tubs. A hot tub usually keeps water heated and circulating for repeated use, while an outdoor bath can be filled with fresh water for each use and emptied afterwards. This also means that water use and drainage need to be considered when planning an installation.

Climate influences the design as well. Shade can be useful in warmer destinations, while colder regions may require insulated pipes and reliable heating. In exposed locations, protection from wind can make an outdoor bath considerably more comfortable.

For travellers, outdoor baths have become another feature worth looking for when choosing an unusual stay. From a simple metal bath beside a cabin to a private bathtub overlooking the landscape, the concept shows how even a small outdoor space can be used differently.
