Marrakech @lescouleursdemarrakech
Just 35 kilometres from Marrakech, Alkamar Camp Agafay combines a desert setting with contemporary Moroccan design and a small-scale approach to staying in the Agafay Desert.
Created by Rachid El Youssoufi and Ismail Fdi, the camp has ten boutique lodges, each with a private pool. Moroccan materials and design details are used throughout, including handwoven rugs, custom furniture and fireplaces for cooler evenings.
A 25-metre swimming pool sits at the centre of the camp, with open views across the surrounding landscape towards the Atlas Mountains. The limited number of lodges gives the property a more private feel than a larger resort.
Days can be spent exploring Agafay by camel, quad or buggy, while yoga sessions, massages and time by the pool provide quieter alternatives. Moroccan food is also part of the stay, connecting the experience with the flavours and ingredients of the region.
Its location makes Alkamar an interesting addition to a stay in Marrakech, offering a completely different landscape within a relatively short distance of the city.
Experience More of Agafay
Life at Alkamar extends beyond the lodge, from camel rides across the desert and yoga at sunrise to long afternoons by the pool overlooking the Atlas Mountains.
