Terracotta, clay, sand and warm brown create a colour palette that feels rich without needing bright or dominant colours. The shades sit close to one another, but small differences in depth and warmth keep an interior interesting.
A pale clay tone can work as the main wall colour, with deeper terracotta introduced through textiles, ceramics or smaller pieces of furniture. Dark brown adds contrast, while sand and warm beige keep the overall palette lighter.
These colours are easy to combine because they share the same warm character. There is no need to match every shade exactly. In fact, combining lighter and darker variations gives the room more depth.
Texture makes the palette stronger. Plaster walls, linen, ceramics, timber and woven pieces each reflect these colours differently, creating variation even when only a few shades are used.
For a more contemporary result, earth colours can be balanced with cream, off-white or a small amount of black. This keeps the palette warm while giving individual shapes and objects more definition.
Curious how the same colours move between interiors and fashion?
