Small knitted objects can bring seasonal colour and texture into a home without changing the entire interior. Pumpkins, cushions and garlands made from wool or yarn are an easy way to introduce an autumn reference through material instead of conventional decorations.

Knitted pumpkins work particularly well because different yarns create very different results. Chunky wool gives them a soft, substantial shape, while finer knitting creates a more structured surface. Rust, cream, ochre and brown connect naturally with an autumn palette.

Cushions can carry the same theme in a less temporary way. A knitted pumpkin motif or a raised appliqué adds texture to a sofa or chair and can easily be combined with plain wool, linen and woven cushions.

Smaller knitted pieces can be grouped into a garland, placed in a basket or used individually on shelves and tables. Because they are lightweight, they are easy to move and store once the season changes.

The idea also lends itself to making pieces at home. Simple shapes can be knitted or crocheted from leftover yarn, making seasonal decoration a small creative project instead of something that needs to be bought new each year.
