Pampelonne Beach is one of the main places to spend a full summer day when staying in or around Saint-Tropez. Located in Ramatuelle, a short drive from the centre of Saint-Tropez, the beach stretches for several kilometres along the Mediterranean.
There are different ways to spend the day. Parts of Pampelonne remain public and can be visited with your own towel and beach equipment, while other sections are home to restaurants and beach clubs where sunbeds can be reserved.
During July and August, booking ahead is useful, particularly if you want both sunbeds and lunch at one of the better-known addresses. Arriving earlier in the morning also makes parking and access easier during the busiest weeks.
Lunch is an important part of the Pampelonne experience. Restaurants range from relatively relaxed beach addresses to well-known names such as Club 55, Gigi Ramatuelle, La Réserve à la Plage, Verde Beach and Casa Amor. Each has a different atmosphere, so it is worth choosing according to the type of day you want rather than simply booking the nearest table.
The water is generally the focus between meals. Swimming, paddleboarding and other water activities are available along the beach, while sailing boats and yachts anchored offshore are a familiar sight throughout summer.
Pampelonne can also be enjoyed later in the day. After the busiest afternoon hours, the beach becomes more comfortable for another swim and several restaurants continue into aperitif and dinner.
Although closely associated with Saint-Tropez, Pampelonne is officially located in the commune of Ramatuelle. That is a useful distinction when searching for restaurants, parking or accommodation around the beach.
