Table & Taste @saveursdumonde
Ginger is particularly useful in rum cocktails because its heat can balance the sweeter and warmer notes of the spirit. Combined with a spiced rum and a sparkling mixer, it creates a drink with plenty of flavour without requiring a long list of ingredients.
The Ginger Storm uses CARUMBOLA Dark Spice as its base, paired simply with ginger ale. The rum brings notes of spice while the ginger adds freshness and a gentle kick.
Fill a glass generously with ice, add one part Dark Spice and approximately three parts ginger ale, then stir gently. A slice of lemon adds acidity and keeps the combination from becoming too sweet.
The choice of ginger ale can change the drink considerably. A dry version keeps the cocktail lighter, while a stronger ginger beer creates a more pronounced ginger flavour. Fresh lime can also replace lemon when a sharper citrus finish is preferred.
Simple serves like this are useful when entertaining because they can be prepared directly in the glass. Keep the rum, chilled mixer, citrus and plenty of ice ready and guests can be served without preparing cocktails in advance.
It works particularly well as an aperitif or as a straightforward evening drink after dinner.
