Layering jewellery allows simple pieces to become more personal through different lengths, materials and details.
Necklaces are an easy place to start. Fine chains can be combined with small pendants, stones, shells or charms, with each piece sitting at a different height. The necklaces do not need to come from the same collection or use exactly the same materials.
The same approach works with bracelets. Slim bangles, cuffs and beaded pieces can be worn together, particularly when there is some connection in colour or metal. Gold and warm brass tones work naturally with earthy shades, printed fabrics and sun-washed colours.
Shells, stones and small charms are particularly common in bohemian jewellery. They can be mixed with more refined chains to prevent the overall look from feeling too uniform.
Layering also makes it possible to combine jewellery collected at different moments. A vintage pendant can sit beside a newer necklace, while a piece found while travelling can become part of an existing combination.
There is no fixed number of pieces required. The most successful combinations usually leave enough space for individual necklaces and bracelets to remain visible.
