Some of the most useful bathroom accessories can be made from very simple materials. A piece of wood, a branch or an interesting stone can often be adapted without turning it into a complicated DIY project.
A sturdy branch can become a toilet roll holder by fixing it securely to the wall. Its irregular shape is part of the design, so there is little need to alter the wood itself.
A flat piece of timber can be used beside the basin. Small holes drilled into the surface can hold bottles or essential oils upright, while a larger opening can provide space for a towel.
Stone can be useful for smaller objects. A piece with a natural opening or hollow can hold a toothbrush, while a heavier stone can provide a stable base for frequently used bathroom items.
The material should always suit its location. Wood used close to water needs an appropriate finish and objects placed around a basin should be easy to lift and clean underneath.
There is no need to make a complete matching bathroom set. One handmade detail is often enough, particularly in a simple bathroom where the material itself can stand out.
Before buying another accessory, it can be worth looking at a piece of wood or stone and considering whether it could already do the job.
