Repurposing gives existing objects a new function instead of using them only as decoration. In mountain interiors, old skis, sledges, wooden crates and other objects can be adapted into shelving, storage or furniture.

Vintage sledges are a good example. Their long wooden frames make them suitable for wall-mounted storage. Positioned horizontally, a sledge can function as a shelf, while the frame underneath can provide space for hooks or a hanging rail.

Old skis can be used in a similar way. Mounted individually or in groups, they can become narrow display shelves, coat racks or wall-mounted storage. Their shape remains visible while the object receives a practical new purpose.

Before reusing older pieces, their condition should be checked. Timber may need cleaning or light repair and metal components should be inspected before the object is expected to carry weight.

Installation is equally important. Objects originally designed for another purpose need appropriate wall fixings when they are converted into shelving or storage.

Repurposing can work particularly well in alpine interiors because many older mountain objects were made from timber and metal. Used selectively, they can introduce regional references while still serving a practical function.
